A Community Classic Reimagined

The Nova Theatre isn’t just a place to see movies—it’s where Edson comes together. Celebrating 70 years in 2025, this retro chic theater is a blast from the past. From summer matinees for families to local film nights and live events, the Nova has evolved from a historic cinema into a vibrant cultural hub. Thanks to local management and community partnerships, the theatre has become a cornerstone of Edson’s arts and entertainment scene.

20 Years and Counting

From outdoor adventure to strong community roots, Randeza and her family have found everything they need — and more — in Edson.

Twenty years ago, Randeza and her family planted roots in Edson — and they’ve been thriving ever since. As an LPN, she’s enjoyed a fulfilling career in a town that celebrates its healthcare professionals. Off the clock, Edson’s natural surroundings offer endless adventure: from backcountry hiking and dirt biking to cross-country skiing, fishing, and more. For Randeza, Edson has always been the perfect place to live, work, and play.

We Came for a Year — and Never Left

Allison arrived in Edson in 1998 “just for a year” — 27 years later, she’s still here, thriving. Her nursing career has spanned nearly every department: Acute Care, Emergency, Public Health, Home Care, Long Term Care, and now management. Allison thrives in the rural environment, where collaboration is key and every nurse wears multiple hats. As she puts it, “if you work rurally, you have to be good at everything.” With horses at home and the mountains just a drive away, Allison has found both personal and professional balance in Edson.

Brewing Big Dreams in Small Town Alberta

When Shekinah Coffee opened its doors in Edson, it wasn’t just about coffee—it was about community. Sourcing beans ethically and roasting them on-site, Shekinah quickly became a beloved hub for locals and travelers alike. With its cozy atmosphere, locally made cinnamon buns, and live music nights, this small-town roastery proves you don’t have to be in a big city to build a bold brand. Shekinah now ships coffee across the region and is exploring wholesale partnerships—all from the heart of Edson.

A Warm Welcome That Lasted a Lifetime

What started as a professional move turned into a lifelong connection for Dr. Sloan and his family — so much so, even his kids came back.

When Dr. Mark Sloan returned to Edson nearly three decades ago as a newly minted chiropractor, he was drawn to the town’s rare economic diversity and prime location between Edmonton and Jasper. But it was the community that truly won him over. He and his family were welcomed with open arms — invited to sleigh rides, camping trips, church gatherings, festivals, and more. That warmth never faded. Today, not only has Edson offered Dr. Sloan a fulfilling practice and an unbeatable quality of life, but it’s also inspired his children, now professionals themselves, to return and build their lives here too.

From Nursing Aide to Assistant Head Nurse

With career support at every turn, Teresa grew her nursing career step by step — all while building a life she loves in a community that supports her.

Teresa’s story is one of growth, grit, and gratitude. Starting as a Nursing Aide in 1991, she worked her way through multiple roles at the Edson Hospital, from Unit Clerk to Admitting Clerk, then completed the Rural LPN program and eventually bridged into an RN designation in 2006. With experience across Acute Care, Labour & Delivery, ER, and Perioperative Nursing, Teresa took on the role of Assistant Head Nurse in 2018. Though she initially moved to Edson for her husband’s job, the small-town charm, unbeatable location between city life and mountain escape, and genuine sense of community made it their forever home.

Generational Craft, Locally Rooted

Tucked into a downtown storefront, Gelmici Jewellers has been designing and repairing jewelry in Edson for decades. Known for their custom engagement rings and meticulous attention to detail, this family-owned shop brings artistry and authenticity to every piece they touch. Their continued growth is fueled by community trust and a renewed appreciation for craftsmanship—demonstrating that niche businesses can thrive when backed by loyal local support.

Small Town. Big Scope. Real Impact.

A passionate teacher, he mentors both medical students and residents in a collaborative, close-knit setting. And with Edson perfectly positioned between Jasper and Edmonton, it’s not just a great place to practice — it’s a great place to live.
